Being a member of a royal family means traveling the world and meeting people from all cultures as part of official state tours. So when we tell you that these are the destinations royals choose to visit on their own, you know they are fabulous.

Klosters, Switzerland

Before Prince William and Catherine, Princess of Wales, were married, they took several ski trips to Klosters, Switzerland together—a destination Will grew up going to with his family. In fact, it was on a trip here that Will first publicly kissed Kate.

Nassau, Bahamas

Princess Margaret and her ex-husband, Antony Armstrong-Jones the Earl of Snowdon, visited Nassau together in March of 1967. Since the couple took a six-week-long cruise through the Caribbean aboard the royal yacht Britannia for their honeymoon in 1960, it's safe to say the couple was a fan of their destination.

Surrey, England

The Duke and Duchess of York (who would later become King George VI and and the Queen Mother) honeymooned at Polesden Lacey, a manor house in Surrey. Here they are seen taking a walk on the 1923 trip. Afterwards, they traveled to Scotland, where Elizabeth caught the "unromantic" whooping cough.

Gibraltar

Prince Charles and Diana, the Princess of Wales, took a cruise on the Royal Yacht Britannia for their honeymoon in July of 1981, starting at Gibraltar. It would later be revealed in letters from Diana that she "caught up on sleep" during their trip.

Adriatic Sea

In October of 1936, Edward VIII and his future wife, Mrs. Wallis Simpson, took a cruise in the Adriatic Sea. This was before the couple's romance became widely known, and before Edward abdicated the throne in order to marry Wallis.

Balmoral, Scotland

One of the most common places the English royal family escapes to during downtime is Balmoral Castle in the Scottish Highlands, which was built in 1856 as a gift from Prince Albert to Queen Victoria. Here, Queen Elizabeth II and Prince Philip are seen celebrating their 25th wedding anniversary in November of 1972.

Island of Necker, British Virgin Islands

Princess Diana visited this island, which is owned by British billionaire Sir Richard Branson, in 1990 for New Year's with 7-year-old Prince William and 5-year-old Prince Harry. Branson has hosted many famous people over the years, including the Obamas.

Mustique, Saint Vincent

Princess Margaret was given land on this Caribbean island as a wedding gift from the island's former owner Colin Tennant in the 1960s, and built her own private villa on it. She proceeded to visit twice every year for three decades and would invite family to join, as evident here by Queen Elizabeth II's visit in 1977.

Miami, Florida

Princess Soraya Esfandiary-Bakhtiary of Iran visited Miami in 1955, seen here walking down a street with her dog. It was on this same trip that she was photographed wearing a bikini while water-skiing, which became a major controversy in Iran, as some thought it was immoral.

Even though Prince Charles prefers Klosters for skiing, Princess Diana refused to go back after a friend was killed in an avalanche there in 1988. Here, Diana is spotted on a ski holiday in Lech in April of 1993, which became her new go-to destination.

Hayama, Japan

Crown Prince Akihito and Crown Princess Michiko took their honeymoon in this beach town in April of 1959. Their wedding marked the first time Japan's crown prince married a non-royal in over 2,600 years.

Hurghada, Egypt

While Gibraltar was the first stop on Prince Charles and Princess Diana's honeymoon, this was the last. Here, the couple is seen in August of 1981 on their way to Hurghada International Airport in Egypt before flying back to Britain at the end of their trip.

On New Year's Eve of 1965, Princess Grace of Monaco went on a vacation with her children, Prince Albert and Princess Caroline, at the Swiss resort of Schoenried in the Swiss Alps. Even her snow gear shows why she was known as a fashion icon.

In July of 1997, Princess Diana and her sons went to the south of France with Dodi Al Fayed. A little more than a month after this trip, Diana and Fayed were killed in a car crash in Paris, France on August 31, 1997.
