You know what they say: A little kindness goes a long way. And in times like this, when even leaving the house is risky, we have to think of safe ways to let our loved ones know we're thinking of them. Luckily, the American Kennel Club has expanded its PupPal program during this difficult time to allow us to reach out to friends and family in a super adorable and heartwarming way.

The American Kennel Club's PupPal program delivers free, uplifting video messages from a friendly canine pal to folks going through a difficult time. It's a perfect greeting to send to a child or elderly family member who might be facing hardship—or loneliness. As seen on the example video on the website, these "puppygrams" are usually narrated by the lively pup himself (well, his owner) who shares a bit about himself (maybe he's a peanut butter loving dachshund, for example), shows him doing a trick or something special, and sends a cheerful message to the viewer. These under one minute clips are short, sweet, and not customized to the person or situation. It’s a completely anonymous exchange between the dog, his owner, and whomever receives the message.

The dogs featured in the messages are actually household pups from all over the country whose owners volunteered them to be a part of the program. All dog breeds are eligible to apply. Along with filling out the enrollment form, owners must create the actual puppygram video with their pup, making sure to follow the guidelines listed on the site. If selected, their video will be sent out by AKC to folks across the country. The information of the dog owners and people who receive puppygrams is always kept confidential.
