For lunch in their Woodstock, Vermont, garden, Zoe and James Zilian — the ceramist founders of Farmhouse Pottery — take their cues from the earthy texture of stoneware.
"Nature inspired our product palette, so it plays well with colorful food. Each piece is handmade with American clay," said the couple. "We're really proud of our flatware; it's not the shiny norm. This has a subtle finish without a lot of reflection."
"Materials should feel honest. Soft, prewashed cotton linens make an easygoing statement."
"You're not going to see a lot of plastic at our table — we're all about a slower life," said the Zilians. "Instead of traditional flowers, we keep several pots of herbs on the table to pluck from while we eat."
"The secret to entertaining is to keep it simple! We love Vermont cheese drizzled with honey," they said, on their menu.
