Mid-remodel, Modern Mix author and HB alum Eddie Ross sets a reno-inspired table at his Pennsylvania home, test-driving the space and proving that there's always time for an elegant meal.

Chair fabric by Boeme Design sparked the rich color palette, a medley of aubergines, reds and bordeaux. An Art Deco–inspired table by Lexington Home Brands is juxtaposed with Lucite chairs by Interlude.

Grandma's sterling looks fresh and current, not dowdy, when it's mixed with gold flatware. Tapers of various colors and shapes in plastic shower knobs to make the setting special.

"It feels like a Dutch still life with the wrinkly linen — an actual drop cloth that I bleached! — and loose floral arrangements," Ross says. "We came up with cheeky names for dishes, like a rack of lamb on sweet-potato 'shingles,' then had a calligrapher create a menu on work-order forms."
