I’m fighting a constant crumb war. Breakfast shrapnel under the table, sand and dirt across the floor of the kitchen, unidentified granules pretty much anywhere I step. Such is life with a two-year-old. Cleaning up after my daughter can’t be something my husband and I relegate to Saturday mornings—we’d live in squalor again by Sunday. As the extremely proud owners of a Samsung Bespoke Jet AI vacuum, we don't have to. This AI version is the 2023 update to the Bespoke Jet Vacuum—which won a Live Better Award last year—and has 25 percent better suction and 50 percent more motor efficiency.

There’s a lot to love about this appliance. To state the obvious, it’s actually good looking: a simple matte cylinder about three feet tall that appears to hover above a round base. No obvious bells or whistles or wacky colors, just clean and polished simplicity. Samsung's website describes it as "designed to be seen." The new AI version comes in Satin Black, and clicks snugly into its cleaning cylinder and charging station, ready to sit sveltely in the corner until it is time to be used. Oh and that aforementioned cleaning cylinder? It sucks the dust out of the vacuum's canister, trapping 99 percent of dust particles. That's right, no more banging out the filter on the side of your garbage can inhaling who knows what. Not only will this vacuum clean your floors, it will help keep the air cleaner as well.

Why the Bespoke Jet Is in a League of Its Own

Let the record show that I also own another high-tech, cordless stick vacuum from another brand (not gifted; I researched extensively, waited for a sale, and then bought it a few years back) and love it. For $399 full price, it delivers in every way I want. But the Bespoke AI Jet, which retails for $849, is rightly in a league of this own. Besides the great design, my favorite feature is that you simply push a button to start the Bespoke Jet—old-school vacuum style!—instead of having to hold down the "trigger" while vacuuming, as is the case with my other model. (I'm weak. Holding the trigger makes my pointer finger hurt.) This beauty also weighs very little, just over 6 pounds. But four particular features stand out as exceptional:

Digital Display

When in use, the Bespoke Jet shows the following information right at my fingertips: charging status (0% to 100%) as well as exactly how much time is left depending on which power mode I'm using. If I hit the plus sign to toggle up to high power mode, the time remaining drops accordingly since this mode uses more power. I have a pretty small apartment, so nabbing all those crumbs my daughter creates rarely takes more than a few minutes, but I love knowing. It makes me feel powerful. In a bigger house, it would be even more functional—you could plan your cleaning path instead of being caught off guard when the battery died.

Clean Station

When I'm done vacuuming, I set my Bespoke Jet back in its base and then press a button that, as Samsung puts it, "empties the Jet Stick dust bin so you don't have to get your hands dirty." What this means is that the dirt from the vacuum itself is sucked into a filter in the base after every cleaning; once that's full, you get an alert to simply swap the (sealed) filter out instead of dumping it into your trash and watching the dust go everywhere in the process. I've been using my vacuum for months and still haven't had to change the filter.

Artificial Intelligence

When we first heard that Samsung had released an AI vacuum, we had mild fears of the vacuum taking over our home, HAL-style, but in fact the AI helps the appliance maneuver effortlessly across different surfaces. So if you are vacuuming across your kitchen tile, then into the hardwood hall, and then onto the living room rug, it anticipates the change in texture and adapts to the best suction and roller height to accommodate. Other models we tried struggled with that transition, causing rugs to get stuck in the roller or dirt being left behind on smooth floors. The Bespoke Jet AI tackles it all with ease.

Accessory Cradle

Instead of tossing all the cool nozzles into a sad bin in the the bottom of my closet, where they would inevitably get lost and/or damaged, I set them in the included Accessory Cradle. This organized little caddy also plugs into the wall as it includes a secondary battery. Using the two batteries and toggling between modes, you can get up 120 minutes of run time with the Bespoke Jet AI—I personally never want to be vacuuming for two full hours, but in a big house you might. And of course, one battery can charge while you are using the other.

There are other features worth noting on this luxury appliance: a telescopic and bendable pipe that can be adjusted to comfortably suit your height and fit hard-to-reach places, a "pet tool" that is particularly good at removing tiny hairs from surfaces. Our managing editor, who has two cats (one so fluffy that her nickname is Puff) finds this vacuum indispensable for getting fur out furniture, curtains, and corners. If you're dealing with a lot of pet hair—or even if you have a suburban-sized house that needs two hours worth of vacuuming at any given time—the $849 price tag on this vacuum doesn't seem so crazy. To me, the value is in the simplicity: As soon as I step on one tiny trace of anything, I pluck the Bespoke Jet AI off its dock and go to town. It's easier than easy. Which is all to say, I am now winning the crumb war against my toddler—and that's priceless.
