Go big this year with oversized plants! If you want to make a statement in your space, Bloomscape's gardening expert Lindsay Pangborn suggests you consider large-scale plants that can work both indoors and out. These are a wise investment because they have the versatility to be displayed in a variety of spaces. Look for plants like bird of paradise, staggered yucca cane, and burgundy rubber tree."

Carnivorous Plants

"2020 and 2021 might have been the year for new plant parents, but 2022 will be the year for budding plant parents to move beyond aesthetics," Pangborn says. "Requiring a little more care but providing an extra layer of interest, carnivorous plants are predicted to be a popular choice for the year ahead. Plants like the pitcher plant or venus flytraps offer beauty, utility, and whimsy since they capture and digest insects as part of their natural lifecycle."

"The home’s front entryway will be a huge focus for the upcoming year," Pangborn continues. "By adding plants, guests can be greeted with warmth as they approach your home. Outdoor plants we’ll be seeing more of are lush hanging ferns, dramatic planters flanking the front door, and accent planters that weave colorful blooms and foliage throughout the space."

Good news for plant novices! There's a new beginner's plant that will build your confidence as a plant owner. "As urban dwellers continue to add greenery to small living spaces, they quickly lose surface area and horizontal space for plants. Creative aesthetics for hanging plants from ceilings and showcasing on wall mounts is going to become more valuable. Vining plants are especially well-suited for versatile placement because many species can vine in any direction," Sabharwal continues.
