When you think of Kanye West, you think Grammy-award winning rapper, record producer, and fashion designer (oh, and brief presidential candidate). These are all true feats of the 43-year-old creator. However, what many people don’t know about West is that he’s very passionate about real estate. "Anybody who’s been to any of my cribs knows that I’m super into developing homes,” West told radio presenter Charlemagne tha God in a 2018 interview. “I’m going to be one of the biggest real estate developers of all time, like what Howard Hughes is to aircraft and what Henry Ford was to cars." While West is known for making over-the-top statements, he wasn’t completely bluffing. Over the years, he’s slowly but surely acquired more land and is even in the process of building his own empire, aptly named Yeezy Campus.

His wife Kim Kardashian (although their marriage is reportedly on the rocks) has also taken an interest in the business. "Kim is so savvy when it comes to real estate,” broker Josh Altman told Money about the couple’s 2017 flip of a Bel-Air home, which they bought for $9 million and sold for $17.8. "This is not her first house, this is not the first time she knocked it out of the park, because she constantly does that on every single property she buys."

Who knows what the future will hold for West and Kardashian, and how the history books will remember their empire— truthfully, we’re leaning towards the celebrity family du jour rather than the biggest real estate family of all time. However, they have owned some impressive properties together, as well as their own. They also definitely have the funds to continue snatching up land left and right, as well as flip properties along the way.

Curious as to the latest developments to Kim Kardashian and Kanye West's real estate portfolio? You can dive into the homes below— ranging from the properties they owned together, to the properties in progress, as well as an honorary mention of all the real estate projects that never came to fruition.

1

The Minimalist Mansion (Calabasas, CA)

The current home base of the Kardashian-West family is a $60 million former McMansion turned into wabi-sabi-inspired dreamscape (or nightmare, depending on your POV) by Belgian designer Axel Vervoordt. Showcased on the cover of AD, the 15,000-square-foot home in Hidden Hills, a suburb of Los Angeles, is starkly white from top to bottom—that is, except for North’s pretty-in-pink bedroom. Sources close to the family claim that this Hidden Hills property may be the hardest asset for Kardashian and West will have to deliberate over in their settlement agreement if they do get a divorce. While Kanye owns the house, Kim owns the land around it. She argues that she should get it as it's where the kids are based and are growing up, says the source.

The couple also purchased a four-bedroom, 3,900-square-foot house on an adjacent 4.5 lot to their main house, thus expanding the compound. The price? A cool $2.975 million. Oh, and they’ve snatched up another adjacent lot—this one just 1.5 acres— for $2.7 million. But you can’t really put a price on buying out your neighbors for privacy!

The Madison Club Land (La Quinta, CA)

In late 2019, Kim and Kanye also purchased a plot of undeveloped land in the tony, golf-friendly Madison Club development in La Quinta, a town in the Coachella Valley (and where the most recent season of The Bachelorette was filmed!). The couple reportedly spent $6.3 million on two acres of land located in the same neighborhood, where Kris and Kylie Jenner each own a property.

Designed by Claudio Silvestrin, Kim and Kanye’s former one-bedroom, 2,427-square-foot SoHo apartment was put on the market with CORE Real Estate in September 2019. Originally Kayne’s bachelor pad, the home is currently in contract, with the most recent price listed at $3.99 million, down from its original asking price of $4.7 million.

5

The Former Mediterranean Mansion (Bel Air, CA)

Prior to purchasing their current main home, the Kardashian-Wests lived in this Bel-Air house, which was once a Mediterranean-style villa, that they purchased in 2013 for $9 million. The couple completely renovated it to align with the more austere design sensibility we see in their Hidden Hills house, then flipped it for a cool $17.8 million in 2017.

Kim's Former Mediterranean Mansion (Beverly Hills, CA)

Perhaps the reason the Kardashian-Wests were so keen on stripping their Bel-Air mansion of its Mediterranean flair is because it reminded them of Kim’s former home in Beverly Hills, which she shared with her now-ex-husband Kris Humphries circa 2011. In 2017, Kim toured the house—which was listed earlier this year—and discovered that the owners kept all her furniture exactly how she left it. A little weird? Yes.

Kim's Former Condo-Turned-Office (Calabasas, CA)

Kim once owned this three-bedroom, 2,260-square-foot condo in downtown Calabasas, but she listed it for sale in November 2019. The mogul reportedly never really lived here, though, using the Vincent Van Duysen–designed space primarily as an office. I mean, why else would you buy a luxury residential condo?

The headquarters of Kanye’s Yeezy brand are also in Calabasas, and they also have super severe vibes like his current home, courtesy of architecture firm Willo Perron & Associates. It’s clear that the minimalist thing is very much a part of Kayne’s visual identity.

9

The 320-Acre Yeezy Home Property (Calabasas, CA)

Here’s where things start getting a little weird. In 2019, Kim and Kanye purchased a 320-acre parcel of land in Calabasas near their Hidden Hills home. That’s not the unusual part. What’s strange is that Kanye started building prefab domed structures as low-income housing on the property (remember his tweet about Yeezy Home?), but they were demolished because he didn’t have appropriate building permits. Yep, seems like Kanye.

The Soon-to-Be Yeezy Campus (Cody, Wyoming)

In November 2019, Kanye bought a $15 million, 12,000-acre ranch in Cody, Wyoming, which he is currently transforming into what he calls "Yeezy campus."According to various sources, it’s going to be part skate park, part James Turrell installation, and part sheep farm, designed by none other than Axel Vervoordt and Claudio Silvestrin, the latter who has been tapped to design some domed structures for the property. We’re sensing some themes here. You can learn more about Yeezy campus here.

11

The Faena House Condo (Miami, FL)

As one with practically infinite money does, Kanye bought Kim a $14 million condo for Christmas in 2018. Located in the Faena House complex on Miami Beach, the condo was designed by starchitecture firm Foster + Partners. But alas, it wasn’t meant to be. Kanye reportedly backed out of the sale after the media leaked the news, losing a $600,000 deposit. Kim was also reportedly not a fan of this spontaneous purchase.

The Chicago Possibility

And finally, Kanye made headlines in 2018 when he announced he’d be moving back to Chicago at an event in the city with Chance the Rapper, saying "I gotta let y'all know that I'm moving back to Chicago and I'm never leaving again." He also tweeted that he’d been opening a Yeezy office there. Turns out neither seems to be happening, but who knows, former presidential candidate Kanye West is always full of surprises.
