Walt Disney's Former L.A. Estate Is Like Its Own Magic Kingdom

And it's now available to rent.

For many of us, the wonderful world of Disney was our first brush with great architecture. (Let's face it: Somewhere between memorizing the catchy songs and getting engrossed in the gripping plot, you were envisioning a life spent in King Triton's aquatic-chic kingdom...or Jasmine's cool Arabian palace...or the Beast's gothic castle...we could go on.) Naturally, it's not too surprising that Walt Disney lived in some pretty impressive digs himself: Specifically a 6,388-square-foot, storybook "cottage" in California's Loz Feliz. And, if you want to bring a little bit of the Disney magic into your life, you can rent this home for a whopping $40,000 a month.

While $40,000 per month is admittedly not cheap, this home is packed with prestige. Not only did Disney live here from 1932 to 1950—in fact, this is where he raised his daughters, Diane and Sharon—but the home itself reportedly served as inspiration for Snow White. (Let that sink in for a second, will you?)

"This property was chosen by Walt Disney as the place to raise his family, and also coincided with a transition of Disney Studios from fledgling enterprise toward entertainment giant," explains Chase Campen, who represents the listing with Compass. "It sits on an acre of land with incredible outdoor space and city views. Its historical pedigree only adds to the magical mystique.”

But that doesn't mean it's a frozen-in-time period piece! This idyllic home is filled with modern touches. (A 10-car garage? Check. Charming architectural details? Check. Lush landscaping that can rival Disney World's? Check.) Perhaps the most special part of the listing is the lightly updated home theater, which is where Disney would watch dailies of his productions. "The original screen is still in place," Campen says. Living here might be a dream—which, we all know, is a wish your heart makes. But just in case that $40,000 price tag is out of your budget, you can take an intimate look at the space here.

As the saying goes, first impressions matter. Between the wrought-iron staircase and glossy wooden floor, this rotunda entrance is just about as grand as it gets.

The home's fairytale feel is front and center in the dramatic, two-story living room. With a perched ceiling, exposed beams, and a sun-drenched window, it reminds us a lot of where Doc, Happy, and Sleepy lived.

In total, this magical mansion is equipped with four bedrooms—providing plenty of space for guests and family members. However, we think Aurora would call dibs on this spacious primary suite.
