Georgia O’Keeffe’s Last Home Is on the Market For $15 Million
We lost count of how many fireplaces this Spanish Pueblo Revival-style home has...
Calling all art fans: Here's your chance to go beyond the paintings and live like Georgia O'Keeffe. The former artist's home in Santa Fe has officially hit the market for $15 million. Aptly called "Sol y Sombra," the 9,139-square-foot house is where O'Keeffe lived from 1984 until her death in 1986. And after that? Paul Allen, Microsoft's late co-founder, had this property in his real-estate portfolio until his passing in 2018. (According to Kelly Allen, listing broker at Keller Williams Agency and Simply Santa Fe Homes, the Dalai Lama has even visited the property.)
Sol y Sombra has a lot more to offer than its star-studded history. Built in 1937 by Dr. and Mrs. Harold Corbusier, the New Mexican pueblo revival home embraces an indoor-outdoor lifestyle with exposed wooden beams, stone flooring, and a handful of covered corridors. A lush garden and Bodhi tree—a gift from the Dalai Lama himself—are on fully display in the property's greenhouse. With a game room, private cinema, and six bedrooms, the primary residence is well-suited for large families and visitors alike. However, if you need more space, the estate also boasts two separate guest homes and a lodge. In fact, the entire property has a whopping 21 bedrooms and 26 baths.
Spanning 20 acres of desert, the property also has a business license, Allen points out, which means it can be used as a residence or conference and learning center with overnight accommodations. Whether you use the property for business or pleasure, the agent makes one thing clear: "This place is special."
According to Dirt, Sol y Sombra debuted on the market for $22.6 million in 2021; however, the asking price has since dropped to $15 million. Want to check out the space for yourself? Read on for a virtual tour of the artful abode.
