Topping the list of reasons we love IKEA? No, it's not their Swedish meatballs (delicious), or their selection of extremely affordable rattan lighting (so extensive! so chic!), but their kitchen systems. Equipped with a 25-year warranty and shockingly low price tags, IKEA kitchens are an affordable and long-lasting solution for homeowners who want to renovate but just aren't in a position to splurge on custom cabinetry. Designers, no surprise, are obsessed with them. The styles and sizes offered are abundant, but if you want to just shop for their basic cabinetry and customize it yourself, that's an option too (duh, it is IKEA, after all). There are a handful of brands that make cabinet and drawer fronts exclusively to fit IKEA systems, and you've got the ability to DIY your day away to make them special too. To make your future kitchen renovation a breeze, we've rounded up some of the most beautiful IKEA kitchens we could find and teased out the brilliant ideas that set them apart from the pack.

A wide blue border gives the main window in this San Francisco kitchen by Gina Rachelle Design a distinctive look. The IKEA cabinetry is paired with open shelving and cabinet fronts from the beloved brand Semihandmade.

2

Dramatic Arch + Splashy Allover Ikat

To give one of the five kitchens in her Dallas home an otherworldly look, designer Michelle Nussbaumer added a pointed arched wall and then swathed the IKEA kitchen cabinetry in her own extra-bold ikat design, printed on custom vinyl. Even the range hood is wrapped!

3

Custom Hardware + Butcher Block

By pairing IKEA's white gloss cabinet doors with an "unexpected hardware choice" (towel holders by the Japanese brand Fuagami!), designer Kevin Greenberg of Space Exploration gave the kitchen of this Montauk, New York, beach house a distinct personality. For the counters, he used marine-grade plywood—but IKEA offers butcher-block options, too, if you don't feel like customizing your own.

When Lindsay Marcus of Resident LA decided to renovate her 1927 California Hills home, extra-large windows were added to accentuate the view, with IKEA cabinetry and Semihandmade fronts making up the new kitchen. By foregoing upper cabinetry and using a barely-there gray-green tint on the lowers, Marcus was able to give the room a wide-open feel that wouldn't obstruct the view.

5

Light-Reflecting Surfaces + Clear Pendants

Des Moines-based designer Jillian Lare designed her sister's kitchen—this gleaming white space with glass pendants and ample bar seating—using IKEA cabinetry. The reflective surfaces and trio of light sources (direct under the cabinets, allover from cans, and mood from the pendants) bounce light around the room even when it's not sunny outside.

Brass Backsplash + Wood Surfaces

Bespoke wood fronts on the IKEA cabinets and a slim brass backsplash elevate the kitchen at Riverside House in Normandy to new heights. Thoughtful details—tiny metallic knobs, open shelves that match the cabinetry—give the whole room a custom look.

Loads of bright light and fresh flowers enliven this IKEA kitchen by Rayman Boozer of Apartment 48. The crisp fronts and open design give it an expansive feel, despite it being tucked inside a Manhattan apartment.

"The mandate was a cool, clean composition," says Space Exploration's Kevin Greenberg of this Manhattan kitchen that his firm designed using IKEA cabinetry. "We commissioned custom millwork doors for the lower cabinets, lacquered in a bold green hue, and had custom pulls cast and plated in polished nickel."

When it came to creating a chic wet bar area under a skylight, HGTV star Alison Victoria sprung for IKEA kitchen cabinetry and then topped it off with a black countertop and backsplash. The cabinet fronts were custom-designed from brass shim stock, a thin sheathing typically used for sealing joints and valves.
