I've always dreamed of having an alcove window with a bench in my home. I'd turn it into a picturesque little nook (sort of like these) where I could sit and watch the raindrops race down the window pane, ponder life's greatest questions, and page through my House Beautiful magazines. Finding a home with such a feat already built in is a challenge—especially because I yearn for a massive alcove, equipped with a seat where I can stretch my entire body out and still have room for all my throw pillows.

Luckily, Marvin is releasing a new window that meets all my requirements. The company unveiled the Marvin Skycove at the 2020 International Builders' Show in Las Vegas in January, and it was one of the standout products we saw, earning a spot on our 'Best New DIY and Renovation Products for 2020' list (and you know we're tough critics!). To fill you in, the Marvin Skycove is a fully-assembled pop-out glass alcove that transforms your living space into that magical nook you've always wanted. It comes with a heavy-duty seat that is half the width of a queen sized bed and runs 8.5 feet in length. Not only is it spacious enough for you to nap, but your significant other (and pets!) can join too.

The seat is strong, too—it actually supports more weight per square foot than the average outdoor deck. Plus, it can be installed in less than a day and won't require any additional parts or work on the exterior of your home. You can choose to have it installed on either the first or second floor of your home. You'll notice how the Skycove juts out from the home, ultimately extending the room and immersing you in the sky.

What's unique about this structure is it provides all the securities and protections of an industrial-styled window, keeping you comfortable and safe, but also gives you the opportunity to experience the outside, from the comfort of your home. The cantilevered structure delivers panoramic views, allowing you to look up at the sky—hence, how it acquired the name skycove. The Marvin Skycove will be available in select areas starting mid-2020. Price to be announced.
