What the dining room looked like when designer Marika Meyer got her hands on it.

At this year's 7th annual DC Design House, a six-bedroom, five-full and two-half bath estate just outside of Washington D.C. was completely revamped all for a cause. Benefiting Children's National Health System, 29 spaces within the 8,000 square foot home were tackled by the area's top talents in interior design and architecture. DC-based designer Marika Meyer of Meyer Interiors was tapped to design the dining room. Here, we dissect her thoughtful, completely livable creation.

The design starting point... China Sea's San Marco wallpaper in gray and ivory tones which includes Chinoiserie motifs.

Thinking about the long term... The distressed traditional pattern is balanced by the modern bold lines of Imperial Trellis in navy and white to create a timeless setting for many events.

Creating an illusion of endless space... Custom designed faux malachite console tables ground gold framed mirrors that establish symmetry and add drama.

A chandelier that's not stuffy... A vintage 22k gold leaf chandelier illuminates the table.

Meeting the needs of every occasion... The space is used on a daily basis for all family meals which dictates a level of durability and practicality that must be tempered with beauty and luxury for special occasions. The round distressed walnut table proves durable yet formal enough for the finest soirée.

The final touch... Vintage Louis dining chairs upholstered in indoor/outdoor fabric complete the balance and create a room that is truly reflective of our concept of practical luxury and functional beauty.
