The entry in a young family's newly-constructed home in Atlanta, Georgia, looked cookie-cutter and bland. To give the space more personality, designer James Wheeler of J. Wheeler Designs decided to make a big statement. "We wanted to create a strong visual impact in the entry, one that would create a memorable first impression," he says. "The couple wanted a design that showcased their modern, youthful personalities and love for entertaining, but needed it to be livable for their small child."

Eye-catching stripes are the first thing you notice in the renovated entry. "A striped wall was painted to add impact and extend the open space even more," Wheeler says. He also added moldings to create architectural interest, custom lighting, durable fabrics and furnishings (since there's a young child in the house), and abstract art to pull the room's modern look together.
