Whether you have leftover festive tissue paper (which often can’t be recycled) or a gift wrap pattern that has sentimental value (you know, the one Grandma uses every year), you can easily give those scraps new life. All you have to do is cut them up or rip them into small pieces, and glue them onto clear ball ornaments to create personalized decoupage decor! You can hang them every year for a festive look, or give them as thoughtful DIY gifts. Ahead, we tapped crafter Meghan Reistad to lay out all of the materials and steps you need to take, so you can organize your own relaxing holiday crafting session in no time.
Materials:
- Ball ornaments
- Mod Podge or other water-based glue
- Tissue or wrapping paper
- Foam paintbrush
- Scissors

How to Make Recycled Paper Ornaments:
- Cut the tissue or wrapping paper into strips or rip it into small pieces.
- Using a foam brush, prep a clear ball ornament by applying Mod Podge all over its surface. (For extra stability when applying the glue, remove the ornament cap.)
- Gently apply the paper pieces in your desired design to the ornament using your fingers.
- For best results, make sure the paper lays flat by dabbing it again with a foam brush.
- Wait 10 minutes for the glue to dry. Hang the ornament using a hook to make sure all areas dry evenly.
- Apply another coat of glue to secure the design, and wait 24 hours for it to dry completely.
- Hang them for decoration or wrap them to give as presents!
