When it comes to window treatments, there are plenty of options. You could add shades, drapery, or blinds, all of which come in various types and materials. You could even incorporate more than one—or none at all. If you’ve decided you want the ability to control the light and privacy in your window, blinds are an excellent option. The adjustable slats offer more customization possibilities than other window treatments. Plus, whether you select a warm wooden one or a simple white plastic one, you can’t go wrong.
But how do you install them? The process is relatively easy. We’ve laid out all of the steps, so you can ensure your blinds will remain secure in your window for years to come. Read on for all of the deets (and follow along with the video if you need visual aids!).
Materials:
- Blinds and hardware
- Drill or screwdriver
- Step ladder
- Tape measure

How to Install Blinds:
- Start by measuring the width of the window casing.
- Based on your measurement, buy blinds in the size you need or cut them to the appropriate length (yes, you can do that!).
- Attach the brackets that come with your blinds to the top of the window casing using a drill.
- Slide the ends of the blinds headrail into the brackets.
- Close the brackets over the headrail to secure it in place.
- Test the blinds to make sure they open and close properly, checking both the slats and the vertical motion of the blinds.
