Whether your sofa's current cushions are completely worn out (and potentially full of stains!) or you simply want to give your couch a fresh look, making your own cushion covers is an excellent, budget-friendly fix. While it may seem daunting if you don't consider yourself an expert sewer, it's totally doable. We asked Ella Hall, the founder of Stitchroom, to walk us through the DIY process. Ahead, go through her step-by-guide to crafting your own cushion covers—and make sure to watch the video tutorial for visual help before you begin.

How to DIY Couch Cushion Covers:

1.Measure the length, depth, and height of your cushion and record the measurements.

    2. Use the following formulas to make your measurements bigger for seam allowance:

    3. Mark these measurements on your fabric.

    4. Cut the fabric.

    5. Fold the main panel in half inside out, and sew a temporary basting stitch (long, easily removable stitches) to create a seam for the zipper.

    6. Pin the zipper along the seam.

    7. Sew in the zipper.

    8. Pin the edges of both side panels to the front and back of the main panel.

    9. Sew the side panels to the main panel.

    10. Flip the cushion cover right side out.

    11. Stuff the new cover with the cushion. Zip it to close.
